1.1 Safety First

“Safety First” is a 45-minute middle school agricultural literacy lesson (MS.IAS.1.1) that teaches students to implement health and safety policies and procedures across various learning environments (classroom, shop, greenhouse, labs, etc.) and to select and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Through an interest approach about footwear, a collaborative activity creating safety procedures for each learning environment, and a colored-card review, students learn to identify hazards and choose PPE to reduce risk of harm.
