“Tomato Travels” is a middle school food and agricultural literacy lesson (Lesson MS.FS.1.2) from the Pork Checkoff Food Science: Consumer Awareness – Farm to Fork curriculum. Students explore the edible plant food product pathway from farm to fork through the four segments of production, processing, distribution, and marketing, using a chips-and-salsa interest approach and a guided visualization in which they imagine being a tomato plant. The lesson includes note-taking outlines, a play-by-play writing assignment with rubric, and an evaluation.
