1.7 Potato People

“Potato People” is Activity 1.7 in the Teamwork unit of the National FFA “Grow Your PALS Program Guide,” a mentoring program activity. Students and their PALS create a population of potato people with different traits using craft supplies, then discuss how those differences illustrate the concept of diversity and why diversity is important in a population.

  • Large baking potatoes – at least one per person
  • Buttons – Two per potato (look for the "eye" buttons you see on some toys)
  • Dishwashing scrubber or yarn
  • Clay or play dough – One to two containers
  • Ribbons – a few inches each of various types
  • Colored felt – One to two squares
  • Toothpicks – One container
  • Scissors – one per person
