1.7 Stop the Spread – A Look at Human and Animal Health Issues
This middle school food and agricultural literacy lesson (“Stop the Spread”) teaches students to differentiate between human health issues, animal health issues, and zoonotic health issues that affect both. Using a “Go Get It” hidden clue-card activity, a CDC video, and class discussion, students learn how diseases spread, examples like E. coli, Salmonella, rabies, and H1N1, and the roles of USDA APHIS and the CDC’s ZVED in monitoring and preventing these issues.
