10.2 New Plants With Biotechnology

This is a Food for America agricultural technology lesson titled “New Plants with Biotechnology” that introduces upper primary students to biotechnology and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Through an interest activity matching ingredients to foods like cheese, bread, and yogurt, plus research and application tasks, students learn how biotechnology is used to create new agricultural products and the steps to genetically modifying an organism. The resource also includes a hydroponics demonstration plan exposing students to new agricultural technology.
