2.2 Chemical Reactions That Produce Ethanol

This is a lesson plan (“Chemical Reactions that Produce Ethanol,” Renewable Fuels Unit 2 Lesson 2) that teaches students about the fermentation process and the chemical reactions that produce ethanol. Through an interest approach with fermented foods, a word-card definition activity, a fermentation equation, and two hands-on yeast experiments, students learn how sugar is converted into ethanol and carbon dioxide and how conditions like temperature affect fermentation. The lesson includes teacher scripting, transparency masters, an activity sheet, and an assessment with answer key.
