2.5 Ethics and Values

“Ethics and Values” (Lesson RNH.2.5) is a Reaching New Heights leadership lesson that encourages students to reflect on their personal values and ethical decision-making. Through a darkened-room “Head of the Line” survival scenario and a group activity working through agricultural ethical dilemmas, students examine their own values and discuss the impact of their ethics on themselves and others.

Materials
  • RNH.2.5.AS.A – one per facilitator
  • Candle and match or a flashlight
Purpose
This activity is to encourage students to think about their lives and the values that guide them. A high level of trust should be established in the group before using this exercise. To have students develop a group value system, discuss their ethical system and discuss desirable ethical behavior of themselves and others and its impact on others as well as themselves.
