3.2 Specialty Animal Production Systems
This middle school lesson, part of the Pork Checkoff Middle School Food and Agricultural Literacy Curriculum, introduces students to specialty animal production systems—animals raised in agriculture other than traditional livestock. Through a drawing gallery activity and a “Go-Get-It” information search, students learn the agricultural uses and key facts of llamas, alpacas, bison, ostriches, and emus, and develop an appreciation for the diversity these animals bring to the agricultural industry.
