4.4 Ensuring Animal Welfare
This middle school lesson, “Ensuring Animal Welfare” (Lesson MS.AI.4.4), is part of the Middle School Food and Agricultural Literacy Curriculum (Pork Checkoff). Students learn about three programs designed to ensure animal welfare and prevent abuse or mistreatment: the Animal Agriculture Alliance, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the State-Based Animal Identification System. The lesson uses interactive teaching strategies (Little Professor and Hieroglyphics e-Moments), a teacher-led discussion, and includes a student assessment.
