4.6 You Decide
“You Decide” is a middle school agricultural literacy lesson that serves as a culminating activity for an Animal Welfare/Animal Rights unit. After reading an example “This I Believe” essay and brainstorming with a word web, students develop and write their own personal belief statement about animal welfare and production, addressing questions about using animals for food/clothing/work, pets, hormones/antibiotics, and confinement. Statements are evaluated with a 6+1 Trait Writing rubric.
