5.1 Care and Handling

This middle school lesson, “Care and Handling” (Lesson MS.AS.5.1) from the Pork Checkoff Middle School Food and Agricultural Literacy Curriculum, teaches students proper animal care and handling practices for livestock and poultry. Through an interest approach using crowded rectangles, activity sheets, scenario card sorting, and a nursery rhyme review activity, students learn to limit animal stress during handling/transportation and to distinguish preventative measures from treatment measures.
