5.3 Myths About Food Production
This middle school lesson, “Myths about Food Production” (Lesson MS.IAS.5.3) from the Pork Checkoff Food and Agricultural Literacy Curriculum, helps students understand the rationale behind common agriculture industry practices. Using a McDonald’s consistency analogy, a Go Get It activity, group posters, and a gallery walk, students explore why farmers keep sows in stalls, cage chickens, dehorn and brand cattle, castrate livestock, use large-scale operations, and apply chemicals to food.
