5.3 Proceed With Caution

This middle school lesson, “Proceed with Caution!” (MS.AS.5.3) from the Middle School Food and Agricultural Literacy Curriculum, teaches students about the dangers of working with animals and how to reduce risk. Through a guided visualization, clay sculpting activity, and teaching masters, students learn about animal vision/blind areas, the flight zone, safe approaches, and using the point of balance to move animals safely.

  • Molding clay – enough for each group of three to make two "sculptures"
  • Large pieces of paper – one per each team of three students to draw on (flip chart/butcher/newsprint type paper will work)
