6.1 Energize Me… the Alternative Way

This middle school lesson, “Energize Me… the Alternative Way!” (Lesson MS.NR.6.1) from the Middle School Food and Agricultural Literacy Curriculum, introduces students to alternative energy. Students identify and define six types of alternative energy sources—solar, wind, biomass, geothermal, hydroelectric, and tidal/wave—through interactive activities including a K-W-L chart, energy-sorting cards, and a drawing exercise. The lesson sets the stage for a follow-up exploration of how alternative energy is used in agriculture.
