6.2 Role With It

This middle school lesson, “Role” with It! (Lesson MS.IAS.6.2 from the Food and Agricultural Literacy Curriculum), teaches students about the consumer’s role in the safe, home use of agricultural products. Through a role-playing rotation activity in which students act as fruit/vegetable, dairy, and beef producers facing ethical decisions about pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, BST, growth hormones, and antibiotics, students examine how producer decisions affect consumer food safety. The lesson concludes with reflection journaling and an essay assessment on producing safe products for human consumption.
