8.3 Prime Rib Please – Issues Related to Animal Production

This middle school lesson, “Prime Rib Please! – Issues Related to Animal Production,” teaches students about the three phases of animal production (production, processing, and consumption) and the consumer, production, and processing issues related to animal science. Through group activities, article analysis, and an Eye Witness News role-play, students examine major issues such as animal waste and pollution, animal welfare, and diseases and food safety, then form educated opinions. It is part of the Middle School Food and Agricultural Literacy Curriculum (Pork Checkoff).
