GP1b: Gatekeepers of the Food Chain

This is Issue 1 of Darling Ingredients’ “Gatekeeper Greenpaper Series,” an informational white paper explaining how the rendering industry serves as the “Gatekeeper of the Food Chain.” It examines the scale of U.S. food and meat waste, compares five methods of handling food waste (landfills, composting, anaerobic digestion, incineration, and rendering), and describes how rendering safely recycles meat by-products and used cooking oil into sustainable products such as animal feed, biofuels, fertilizer, and industrial ingredients while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
