Simulation Farm

This is a Food for America demonstration plan in which students simulate building a school farm in the classroom by planting seeds in seed trays. Through a hands-on planting activity and interactive introduction, students learn the steps of planting and that agriculture includes food, fiber, and natural resources.

  • Sample vegetables (tomatoes, carrots, etc.)
  • T-shirt
  • Cotton ball (or part of cotton plant if available)
  • Small piece of wood
  • Seed trays
  • Potting soil
  • Seeds (tomato, flower, etc.)
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Watering can and water
  • Cardboard shoe box
  • Construction paper
