Think-Solve-Pair-Share
This is a numeracy instructional strategy resource (“Think-Solve-Pair-Share”) created by the National FFA Organization to help students work math problems individually and then collaboratively in small groups. Students think through and solve a problem on their own, then pair up to compare and discuss their solutions before sharing with the whole class. It includes a worked example and a reproducible student worksheet.

- Description
- The Think-Solve-Pair-Share strategy allows students to work in small groups of ideally two to four people. Students think about the problem and solve it on their own. Then they work with a partner or small group to share how they solved the problem. If their answers are different they will work through where the difference came from and determine if only one or neither is correct. Sharing can end at this point or groups can share with the whole class to determine the various ways to arrive at the correct answer.
- How to Use
- This strategy can be used for any math problem. Students can be provided with the Think-Solve-Pair-Share worksheet or the steps can be written on the board or explained verbally.
