Appendix 1: Soil Health Sort Cards

This resource is a set of “Soil Health Sort Cards” (Appendix 1) consisting of four category header cards—Physical, Chemical, Biological, and Human Activity Factors—and eleven illustrated factor cards (e.g., Soil Texture, Soil Structure, Compaction, Water Retention, pH, Nutrient Availability, Salinity, Organic Matter, Microorganisms, Soil Biodiversity, Tillage, Fertilizer Use, Land Use). Students use the cards in a sorting activity to classify each soil health factor under the appropriate category.
