Sap Happy
“Sap Happy” is a 60-minute FFA lesson plan that teaches students about tree anatomy and the production of maple syrup. Using the “Sap Happy” article and two worksheets (“From Sap to Syrup” and “Sap on the Rise”), students identify the parts of a tree’s vascular system, learn how maple syrup is made from tree sap, and research how sap rises in a tree. It works well as an introduction to tree anatomy or as part of an agricultural production or food science unit.
